Most local teens reported they obtained alcohol from home without or with their parents’ permission, and they drank at home or at a friend’s house (Source: OASAS 2014-2015 Youth Development Survey).
What can parents do? Keep alcohol secure at home and monitor your teens, including knowing who they are with, what they are doing and when they will be home. Studies also show if you want to get young people to better learn about the risks associated with their choices, you might want to focus on the benefits that a positive change would bring rather than hounding them with horror stories.
