Anthony Parlato III Memorial 5K Run/Walk
Join us on Saturday, June 6th, at 9AM at Neville Park in Center Moriches to take part in the Anthony Parlato III Memorial 5K to honor the life and legacy of Anthony.
Created by Anthony himself, this 5K fundraiser continues to help fund many of the same programs Anthony developed to support local youth.

In the spring of 2000, a group of concerned community leaders initiated community discussions regarding the rise in poor decision-making among local young people. These concerns prompted a necessity for youth-based programs aimed at offering an alternative to involvement in unhealthy risk-taking behaviors. In March of 2000, the Moriches Community Center was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Anthony Parlato III, one of the original cofounders and a Co-director of the MCC for 13 years, was a major contributor to the success of the MCC. Heartbreakingly and unexpectedly, Anthony passed away on April 24, 2013. Anthony was a man of action. He didn’t just talk about making a difference; he lived it. Anthony developed and ran multiple youth-oriented programs and events, many of which still exist today. With contagious joy, youthful energy, and a natural ability to bring out the best in people, he inspired others through his example and helped pave the way for the future leaders of our community. Selfless and compassionate, he was a voice for the voiceless and an advocate and mentor for those who needed one. Anthony’s commitment to his community was unparalleled, and he left behind a legacy of helping others. Whether it was a spontaneous act of kindness, a random inspiring group text, or his contagious laugh, Anthony’s presence made our small community feel a little brighter, reminding everyone that happiness could be found in the simplest of moments.

Parlato-Johnson Memorial Scholarship
Anthony Parlato and Kathleen Johnson were two of the most selfless and dedicated individuals our community has ever known. As co-founders and co-directors of the Moriches Community Center, they devoted their lives to strengthening the spirit of Center Moriches and creating a place where youth, families, student-athletes, neighbors with disabilities, and those in need felt supported and valued.
Their passion and service helped shape the close-knit community we are proud to call home. The place the Moriches Community Center calls home, located adjacent to the Center Moriches High School, stands as a lasting reflection of their dream, and was brought to life eight years ago. Although we lost Anthony in 2013 and Kathleen just two years ago, far too soon for both of them, their legacy of compassion, leadership, community, and kindness continues to inspire us all.
This year, the MCC will give two $1000 scholarships to Center Moriches Seniors looking to attend higher education. These scholarships honor their memory and are awarded to two students who truly embody their philosophy: “Help Someone Today” and “Be Kind Always.” It is intended for a senior who consistently puts others first, contributes to the betterment of the community, and plans to continue giving back long after graduation. In a town built on connection and mutual support, we look to the next generation to carry forward their mission.
In your own words, please address the following:
- The importance of helping others and being kind to all
- How your surrounding community has shaped who you are
- A description of your community service experiences and how they have impacted you
- How you plan to continue giving back wherever you may end up in life
Please submit all applications to the CM Guidance Department. Thank you for applying, and we wish you the very best in your future endeavors.
